Sourdough Waffles

Yum
The lightest, crispiest waffles you may ever make at home. Slightly tangy from the sourdough and perfect for a lazy weekend morning. Enjoy!

Sourdough Waffles

Yield: 6 Belgian waffles
Ingredients
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 450g warm water
  • 325g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • optional: 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • optional: 2 tablespoons sugar
Cooking Directions
  1. The night before you want waffles, mix the sourdough starter with the warm water. Then mix in the flour. Some lumps are fine and will even out overnight. Let sit covered in a warm place for about 12 hours.
  2. In the morning, remove one cup of the batter and set aside. This is your starter now. Save it for next time.
  3. Mix in an egg, oil, and milk, if using, into the batter.
  4. In a separate small bowl, combine the salt, baking soda, and sugar, if using.
  5. Heat your waffle iron to the second-highest setting highest setting.
  6. Once preheated, sprinkle the salt/soda mixture over the batter. Fold (don't mix) to incorporate.
  7. Cook according to waffle iron manufacturer's instructions.

Chicken and Waffles

Yum

Sometimes it's nice just to have a simple southern comfort creation. Sometimes you don't even have to do much of the difficult cooking yourself.

Take, for instance, this chicken and waffles dish here. The fried chicken is leftover from Popeye's, baked in a toaster oven to get it crispy, then served with some homemade waffles and a side of poached collard greens and garlic. It was delicious in its simplicity, and it was exactly what the doctor called for.

A fun way to treat those leftovers is always a bonus. Enjoy!

Have you ever been to a restaurant and can't decide between the waffles or french toast? Now you don't have to! For everyone who ever wished they could combine the two, this is for you.

Either prepare the waffles from scratch beforehand or use frozen blueberry waffles. Either way, this will be a unique and tasty hit around your kitchen table, breakfast nook, or in bed for that special someone. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Waffles and Spanish Tortilla de Patata

Yum

We have some Pumpkin Waffles and Spanish Tortilla de Patatas cooking up today. The pumpkin waffles are the leftover pumpkin from everything else we've been using and waffle mix. Inspired by our recent trip to Spain, the tortilla de patatas is something akin to an omelette with potatoes, except the ingredients are all mixed together instead of any kind of filling. It's a new and scrumptious way to enjoy eggs and potatoes!
